I want to thank all of you for your support and for those of you who
took time to vote in the Section Manager election. I especially want to
thank Bob Craven for a well-contested race and thank him for his
enduring contributions to amateur radio, especially in Utah. I know Bob
will continue to contribute in meaningful ways in the section.
As your newly elected Section Manager, I will keep the promises I made
to you in my campaign platform. We are already growing amateur radio in
Utah. I’m happy to announce that we have a new Emergency Coordinator in
Sevier County. Doug Preston, K7VVW, has volunteered to take on the reins
and I know we are going to see great things. We’ve never had an ARES
group in Sevier County. I’m glad we do now as I know the capabilities
ARES will bring to that part of the state are badly needed.
I look forward to traveling the section this coming Field Day and
meeting as many of you as I can. If you see me first, please come
introduce yourself. Don’t forget! You get a generous point bonus for
sending me an email during the Field Day Contest. You can send your
email to: k7bdp@arrl.org – or you can send it to k7bdp@winlink.net . I’m
excited to receive as many emails as possible.
I’m always open to feedback from you. This is YOUR section…the cabinet
and I are just managing it. If you ever feel something isn’t being done
that should be done, reach out to me and let me know. If you feel
something is being done, but more needs to be done, reach out to me and
let me know. If you have any questions about what IS being done, reach
out to me and ask. The ARRL is your league and the Utah Section is your
section. It is your dues that allow us to make an impact in Utah. If you
don’t feel you’re seeing any value, please let me know what we can do.
As far as keeping everyone in the loop, you are going to see a lot more
activity on the section news webpage. You can access that webpage from
the ARRL website. Or you can simply go to: arrlutah.org. That website,
just like this section, is YOUR website. If you ever want to highlight
something that’s being done in the section, or if you have news you
think others would like to know about, let me know. I’d be happy to post
it on the website.
Another thing I’d like to start doing on the section website is member
highlights. Something like you see in On the Air or QST magazine. If you
think of someone who deserves recognition – for anything – please let me
know. I think it would be fun to show off what we’re doing in the
section as individual members.
I wish all of you the very best and look forward to working together to
grow the hobby and increase our collective enjoyment of it.
